On October 23, at the invitation of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Odesa and Odesa region, Mr. Oleh Veretennikov, the representatives of the International Cooperation Department took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia.
The event began with a welcome speech by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Mr. Juris Poikans, as well as the grand opening of the bas-relief to the outstanding Latvian poet Andrejs Pumpurs at the Italian Boulevard, 3. Latvian and Ukrainian military also joined the event. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by the Navy Commander Admiral Igor Voronchenko and the Latvian – by the Navy Chief of Staff of the Republic of Latvia Captain Kaspars Zellis. Representatives of public authorities, diplomatic missions, educational institutions, and mass media, also attended the event.
After the official opening of the sculpture, the invited guests had the opportunity to learn more about the life of the Latvian poet at a literary evening held at the Odesa State Literary Museum. At the beginning of the event, the representatives of the public authorities of the Odesa region congratulated the Latvian diplomats on the national holiday.
The ORIPA NAPA representatives, on behalf of the Institute’s director Mykola Izha, congratulated Mr. Oleh Veretennikov and Mr. Juris Poikans on the occasion of the public holiday, discussed possible areas of cooperation and invited the diplomats to visit the Institute.
